151 E Wilson
This post-tensioned concrete structure rises 17 stories above John Nolen Dr, offering fantastic views of Lake Monona and the Wisconsin State Capital. The narrow building is built tight between a 100 plus year old 9-story building and 16-story condo building. The 202,000 square feet project features 13 stories of residential units, one-story of retail and office space at the street level and 3 levels of parking below E Wilson St. The narrow site required careful coordination of the new foundations to minimize the amount of underpinning of the adjacent building foundations. The buildings narrow width required that the stair and elevator cores be oriented parallel with the long dimension of the building to maximize parking efficiency. This greatly reduced the effectiveness of the concrete shear walls. To compensate for this, the PE team utilized thickened slabs near the stair and elevator cores to engage adjacent columns to limit the building drift under lateral loads.
