Located steps away from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, this 395,000 square-foot post-tensioned concrete structure rises 13-stories above grade and is supported on belled drilled shaft foundations. The building includes 9 levels of residential units and 2 levels of office space over parking and retail spaces. Building amenities include a fitness center, outdoor plaza spaces, and a rooftop pool deck. Due to the building’s location right next to the University of Illinois bookstore, access to the bookstore loading dock needed to be maintained not only in the final design of the structure, but throughout most of the construction phase of the project as well. The PE team worked closely with the design team, contractor and building owner to coordinate the construction of the new building with the existing conditions encountered in the field.
