Located in the heart of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign campus, this post-tensioned-concrete structure rises 17 stories above grade. The 385,000 square-foot building includes 14 residential floors over parking, a big box retail store at the grade level and additional parking in the basement. The building features a large rooftop amenity space with a swimming pool, outdoor kitchen and ample lounge spaces. A 20-feet-wide alleyway over the basement parking severs the grade and second levels, allowing truck access to ground-level retail and adjacent buildings. During the design process, the PE team was tasked with delivering the most economical foundation system for the owner. After multiple studies, a mat slab averaging 6 feet thick was selected over drilled piers and driven piles.
