Design of a 27,450 sf L-shaped addition to the existing high school. The addition consists of a new main entry with large atrium, classrooms and miscellaneous school space. The construction consists mainly of masonry bearing walls and precast floors. C Steel framed cantilevers highlight the atrium addition and precast was cantilevered over the foundation wall to provide setbacks between the first floor and lower level. A tight site and poor soils required the use of helical piers along with shallow concrete foundations. Finite element analysis was used to accommodate variable openings in the masonry walls.
